Research is an integral part of the self-image of the Trier Faculty of Theology as an academic institution. The diverse profiles of the chairs and professorships create a broad, lively spectrum of research topics, often in close cooperation with Trier University, other national and international universities, and church institutions.

Our research approach is characterized by openness to others: interdisciplinary in dialogue with the humanities, social sciences, and cultural studies; interreligious in exchange with other religious traditions; and international through diverse collaborations and networks.


We are particularly committed to promoting young academics. The faculty has the right to award doctorates and postdoctoral qualifications (habilitations) and supports young researchers on their path to academic theology.
